The world is reacting to the death of the animal rights campaigner and primatologist – Dr Jane Goodall. In a statement – the United Nations – said it’s mourning her passing – calling her a U.N. Messenger of Peace – and recognizing her invaluable legacy in promoting harmony between people and nature. The Jane Goodall Institute which she founded – says Dr. Goodall died of natural causes in California – where she was set to appear as part of a speaking tour. Jon Stewart returned to Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” Monday night immediately mocking President Biden and former President Trump for a shared problem.
Minutes into his opening monologue Jon Stewart criticized President Biden and former President Trump for one of the biggest issues this election year. “They are the oldest people ever to run for president — breaking by only four years the record that they set!” Stewart returned to Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” after a nine-year hiatus with his usual and acerbic wit. “I think we’ve got a new name for our election coverage: Indecision 2024, Antiques Roadshow.” Stewart agreed to host the show Monday nights through the 2024 election. A wildlife refuge pond in Hawaii turns bright pink
A pond on Maui has turned so pink some people are causing it Barbie pink. Scientists say the Hawaiian island’s drought likely caused the bizarre but beautiful phenomenon. The Pacific Whale Foundation says drought closed the Kealia Pond’s connection to the sea allowing algae and bacteria to bloom, especially those who thrive in high salt content water. Biologists believe it’s those organisms that give the pond its pink glow, and while not toxic it’s so salty they don’t recommend drinking it. Carmen Roberts. Fox News.
The music world is remembering pioneering jazz saxophonist Wayne Shorter who died March 2.
Jazz innovator, creator of a distinctive jazz sound, and 12-time Grammy winner describe saxophonist Wayne Shorter. His music lets you experience the legend. (Music “Footprints”) Already well known on the jazz world in the late 1950s – Shorter helped expand its sound over his eight-decade career – early on as a member of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, and The Miles Davis Quintet, and as a founder of Weather Report. (Music “Birdland”) He collaborated with greats including Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan and fellow Buddhist Herbie Hancock, who says he’s lost his best friend, but that Shorter left us with love and compassion for all. Shorter’s closest friend and fellow SGI Buddhist, Herbie Hancock, said in a statement, “Wayne Shorter, my best friend, left us with courage in his heart, love and compassion for all, and a seeking spirit for the eternal future. He was ready for his rebirth. As it is with every human being, he is irreplaceable and was able to reach the pinnacle of excellence as a saxophonist, composer, orchestrator, and recently, composer of the masterful opera …Iphigenia. I miss being around him and his special Wayne-isms but I carry his spirit within my heart always.”
Shorter’s long-time label, Blue Note Records said, “Visionary composer, saxophonist, visual artist, devout Buddhist, devoted husband, father, and grandfather Wayne Shorter has passed away at age 89, departing the earth as we know it and embarking on a new journey as part of his extraordinary life. Shorter was surrounded by his loving family in Los Angeles at the time of his transition.”
